Getting Real Coding Experience in Tough Times
Many people have asked me to start a training class. Initially, I wasn't sure if I could be a "teacher," but I still want to help others. So, this is my attempt to assist junior engineers.
Myanmar is going through a tremendously difficult period. Under the current dictatorship, many young people have had their education disrupted. Their futures are being taken away. Chances for personal and professional growth are very rare. It is also very difficult for most young people to leave the country. They are stuck. The once-vibrant tech industry is also dead. Due to lack of experiences, most of the young people cannot do freelance work either.
As someone who has walked the path of being a developer in the golden days, I feel a strong responsibility to help the next generation of Myanmar's tech talent. I know from my own experience how important practical experience is for a new developer. It's the bridge between theoretical knowledge and real-world problem-solving.
A Community for Growth and Learning
That's why I'm starting a community initiative to provide junior developers in Myanmar with the opportunity to work on real, impactful projects. Working together with other developers to build something real. Not just studying but learning by doing. This is how you really grow your skills in areas like teamwork and managing projects, not just writing code.
My Role: Supervisor and Mentor
I will supervise these projects, giving guidance and also coding together with you. I want to share what I have learned to help you grow.
Not an Internship or Free Work
To be clear, this is not an internship or a way to get free work from you. It's a collaboration where we all learn and grow together. You will work on real, meaningful projects, but you participate voluntarily to build your skills and portfolio.
A Chance to Build Something Real
Some of these projects may turn into real products or startups. If that happens, everyone who worked on the project will get a share of ownership. We will decide on clear and fair rules for how this community works. It will be fully separate from my own company. But if you do great work on these projects, you may have a chance to join my company in the future.
What We Are Looking For
To join these projects, you should:
Know at least
python
programming languageHave built some small projects or completed some coding courses
Be eager to learn and work with others
Be ready to commit time every week to your selected projects
What You Will Gain
By joining our community, you will:
Get real experience working on meaningful and fun projects
Learn new skills and technologies
Connect with other developers and build your network
Create a strong portfolio to showcase your abilities
Maybe even get a chance to join my company!
Our Community Policies
We've established clear policies to ensure this community operates fairly and transparently:
Licensing Model: Each project will choose an open source, proprietary, or hybrid licensing model depending on its goals. This will be clearly communicated upfront.
Recognition of Individual Contributions: Every developer will be credited for their specific contributions.
Collective Project Ownership: Projects will be owned collectively by the community or a neutral entity, not by any individual or external company.
Equity for Major Contributors: If a project becomes a commercial project, major contributors may receive an ownership stake according to predefined agreements.
No IP Transfers: Contributors will never be asked to transfer their work to any other company.
Voluntary Participation: Contributions are voluntary and unpaid. The focus is on learning and growth, not financial compensation.
Transparency in Decision-Making: All major project decisions will be made openly as a community.
A Beacon of Hope
So if you're a junior developer in Myanmar eager for real-world experience, this community is for you. Together we will build exciting projects, learn from each other, and take our skills to the next level.
It will not always be easy, but it will be rewarding. You will face real challenges, but you will also make real progress. And you will not be alone. You will have the support of our community every step of the way.
If this sounds like the opportunity you have been looking for, get in touch. Tell me a bit about yourself and what you hope to learn by sending an email to community@burmese.ai.
This could be the start of an exciting new chapter in your developer journey.
I am personally emailing all 150+ applicants (individually) to inform you of your selection status.
Please be patient. Thank you!
I have sent the email with a resume and background experiences in Python and other langauges. Looking forward to hearing back from you! It's such an amusement just to see someone in the industry is offering hands for those who need this!
